LANSING — Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) issued the following statement after the Senate adopted Senate Resolution 107 to urge the federal government to fund the medical costs associated with testing and mandatory hospital stays for the novel coronavirus:
“Being prepared is critical to control the spread of COVID-19 and to keep all of our residents safe. Viruses do not discriminate — and we need to ensure that everyone has access to testing and care for both themselves and to contain the spread to their community at-large. We have a responsibility to our citizens to ensure everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to testing and treatment. We need to do everything we can to be proactive and cannot afford to have individuals avoid testing or care for fear of the potential costs.
“While the federal government and the state of Michigan have already taken steps to ensure that all those with Medicare and Medicaid are guaranteed to have their fees associated with COVID-19 covered, we need to go a step further and ensure that all residents, regardless of coverage, can be a part of the solution to proactively stop the spread of this deadly virus.”
