ROYAL OAK, Mich. (Jan. 26, 2022) — Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address tonight, in which she celebrated successes in supporting and developing talent from childhood to adulthood — including access to free, high-quality preschool, the largest K-12 investment in a generation, and providing scholarships to frontline workers who continue to sacrifice so much during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic:

“We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leverage federal funds and surplus revenue to make the investments needed to secure Michigan’s future — now and for decades to come. In addition to the success of the Futures for Frontliners and Michigan Reconnect programs, we have an opportunity now to ensure every child born in Michigan has access to an excellent education from early childhood through postsecondary, trade programs, or college degrees — creating a workforce that will have companies clamoring to invest here in Michigan.

“Michigan has an unparalleled history of design, innovation, and manufacturing, and the unique ability to solve any of the world’s biggest challenges. By continuing to work together with the Governor’s administration and leadership at home in Oakland County to eliminate barriers, support our people, and come back from the pandemic stronger than before, I know we will build communities and an economy that will attract the best and brightest to live here, raise families, and retire — all surrounded by the beauty of our Great Lakes.”
