LANSING, Mich. (Dec. 20, 2022) – Today, Sen. Majority Whip-Elect Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) announced two new appointments to her team: Chief of Staff Emily Collins and District Director Christopher Johnson.
“Emily is a proven leader with more than a decade of experience managing teams inside and outside of government,” Sen. McMorrow said. “Her relationships with stakeholders across the metro Detroit area will be vital as we look to build economic opportunities for communities from Bethune and Bagley all the way up to Birmingham.”
Before joining Sen. McMorrow’s office, Collins most recently served as regional political director for Gretchen Whitmer’s successful reelection campaign. Before that, she served as a legislative director in the Michigan House and worked political campaigns across the metro Detroit area. Collins has a master’s from Western Michigan and a bachelor’s from Oakland University.
Also joining Sen. McMorrow’s team is Christopher Johnson, who will serve as the district director for the new 8th Senate District. Johnson is the current President of the Bagley Community Council in Detroit and a Wayne County Commission community liaison.
“Christopher brings a lifetime of experience in service and community organizing to our office,” Sen. McMorrow said. “As we enter into a new term with a new district, we know his wealth of knowledge and relationships in the City of Detroit and his proven passion for service will benefit the entire 8th Senate District.”
Both roles will begin in January. While Johnson’s role is new, Collins replaces Molly Korn, who will join the office of Senate Majority Floor Leader-Elect Sam Singh (D-East Lansing). She previously worked for him in the House.
“Molly has been a trusted friend, advisor, and vital member of my team for the last four years, and I’m glad she isn’t going far,” said Sen. McMorrow. “I’m so happy that Molly has the opportunity to work for Sam again when he takes office in January.”
All scheduling requests or outreach should go to Sen. McMorrow’s general district email or voicemail to ensure a seamless transition into the new term.
