LANSING — Earlier this month, the Trump Administration released a $4.8 trillion budget with a proposed $756 billion cut to Medicare and a $1 trillion cut to Medicaid. Today, Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) issued the following statement in line with Vice President Mike Pence’s planned visit to Troy, where he is hosting a rally for President Trump’s re-election:
“Under this administration’s plans, 60 million people over the age of 65 — along with those with disabilities — would see their health care costs skyrocket even as their coverage is gutted and slashed. Our seniors and most vulnerable residents are our friends, family, and neighbors, not expendable budget line items. I’m proud of the work of Troy native Dr. Rob Davidson in raising the flag on this devastating proposal, and commend the work that his organization, the Committee to Protect Medicare, is doing to bring awareness to the impact these cuts would have on families in Michigan and across the country. As Vice President Pence visits Troy this evening, I hope he sees that Michigan residents won’t tolerate the continued attacks on their health care.”
Sen. McMorrow is serving her first term in the Michigan Senate in a district that includes Troy. She has been a vocal advocate of reversing Michigan’s pending Medicaid work requirements which could potentially cause hundreds of thousands of Michiganders to lose health care coverage.
Led by Dr. Rob Davidson, an emergency physician from Troy, Mich., the Committee to Protect Medicare is a citizen advocacy group made up of frontline doctors who are dedicated to protecting Medicare and Americans’ access to affordable health care.
