LANSING, Mich. (June 29, 2021) — Sens. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) and Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) have released the following statement inviting bands and musical acts back to Michigan’s small music venues after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week ended most restrictions put in place to combat COVID-19:
“After the year-and-a-half we’ve had rocked by the global COVID-19 pandemic and the incredible work all by all of our residents to get through it, it’s time to celebrate. Thanks to Michigan’s aggressive actions to curb the spread of COVID-19 and get residents vaccinated, we’re thrilled that Michigan is fully back open for business. And Michiganders are ready to get back out there. We’re joining forces to tell all artists and bands to make sure Michigan and Metro Detroit are on your tour list.
“Our incredible independent performance venues were some of the hardest-hit small businesses throughout the pandemic. We know the owners and staff have done everything possible just to survive — now it’s time to get them, and our communities, back on the path to thrive. These venues are critical to the vibrant culture of our region, and it’s time to light up the marquees, get our residents back in the doors, and enjoy the nights out.
“Welcome back to Michigan. We’re here. We’re ready. And we can’t wait for the music to fill these venues again.”
