COFFEE HOURS
As a reminder, we host ‘Meet Up with Mallory’ coffee hours every week there is a legislative session. Last week, there was a session on Thursday, July 15th. We gave a brief update on our social media channels on Friday, July 16th. If you were unable to join us, no worries, here’s what we touched on:
- Unlock Michigan: The Senate passed this petition initiative, which would repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers Act, along party lines. While many people in support of this petition initiative have viewed its impact through the lens of this current Governor and the current moment, I believe it’s critical that the state retain every tool to be able to respond quickly during times of emergency to protect Michiganders. I voted no. I discussed this in more detail in last week’s coffee hour, which you can find here on my YouTube page here.
- Our next Virtual Coffee Hour will be Friday, July 23rd at 1:00 p.m. on our social media channels. You can watch it here. If you cannot make it, no worries, all live coffee hours are uploaded to our channels to watch at a later date. If you would like to ask us a question, you can do so via this form. Make a note! Our August coffee hour will take place on Friday, Aug. 20th at 1:00 p.m.

GOOD NEWS
In our previous Coffee Hours (and future ones!) we have (and will) incorporate a new segment, which has become a quick favorite of ours, highlighting good news throughout the district. This week we’re highlighting:
- A local Troy High School Senior and Eagle Scout is hosting a Chili Cook-Off to benefit the Special Olympics of Michigan. The “Great Bowls of Fire” Chili Cook-Off will take place Sunday, July 26th from Noon to 3:00 p.m. The proceeds for this event will help fund a “day of hockey” where individuals will be able to learn how to ice skate, play hockey, AND learn CPR. Click here for more information on this event, and its host Wyatt Lucas.
- The Rochester Police Department just welcomed its first Comfort Dog! Walter, a 10-week old Goldendoodle, was donated to the Rochester Police Department by the Michigan Doodle Rescue Connect and will serve as an asset to mental health calls, domestic violence cases, or reports of child abuse. Walter has begun his training as a certified therapy dog and will work with his partner, Officer Amy Drehmer, in the school district and around the community.
- A local downtown Birmingham business is celebrating the safe return of in-person work. White Glove, a financial technology company in our community, held their own Olympics inspired by “The Office” on July 13th. Three individuals in their leadership could be seen on a torch run, donning wigs and headbands down Maple and Old Woodward. In addition to this opening torch run, the company will host several days of competitive events as a welcome back for staff, including flip cup, a swivel chair race, and a paper-in-basket toss. As the games conclude, the company will be finishing off their Olympic games with a donation to Detroit Dog Rescue.
