Cheyna Roth of Michigan Public Radio Network moderated a panel discussion – along with Senator Mallory McMorrow (SD-13), Senator Rosemary Bayer (SD-12), Senator Erika Geiss (SD-6), Representative Julie Brixie (HD-69), and Representative Robert Wittenberg (HD-27) – about a bicameral bill package introduced this past spring to establish a judicial process for extreme risk protection orders (ERPOs), or red flag laws, in Michigan. As gun violence is an incredibly nuanced issue, the Senators and Representatives felt it would be beneficial to bring a host of community leaders, experts, and constituents together for a moderated discussion on gun violence and prevention measures in Michigan. The video-recorded event serves as an opportunity to have an open and intimate conversation on gun violence prevention with experts, local officials, and activists while providing the chance for these individuals to share their knowledge about the need for sensible legislative measures to prevent future loss of life due to a firearm ending up in the wrong hands.
