Legislative Packages to Protect Michigan\u2019s Kids, Moms, & Seniors Advance in the Senate<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Last week, the Michigan Senate moved forward several pieces of legislation to protect Michiganders from their younger years to their older ones.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Protecting seniors and vulnerable adults from abuse:<\/span><\/i><\/b> To combat the scams, fraud, and theft that Michigan\u2019s seniors and vulnerable residents too often fall victim to, the Senate passed Senate Bills <\/span>922<\/span><\/a>–<\/span>925<\/span><\/a>, which would ensure Michigan\u2019s growing population of aging adults can enjoy the dignity, safety, and quality of life they deserve. These will now be taken up for consideration by the House.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Strengthening Michigan\u2019s child labor laws:<\/span><\/i><\/b> Senate Bills <\/span>963<\/span><\/a>–<\/span>965<\/span><\/a> would <\/span>increase penalties and fines for businesses found employing minors illegally<\/span><\/a> or subjecting them to unsafe working conditions. These bills moved through committee and are now on their way to the Senate floor for a vote.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Improving maternal health care services:<\/span><\/i><\/b> The Momnibus bill package \u2014 Senate Bills <\/span>818<\/span><\/a>–<\/span>823<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>825<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>House Bill 5826<\/span><\/a> \u2014 focuses on amplifying the voices of Black and Brown birthing people, ensuring that their needs are prioritized and addressed.
