I wanted to share an update on how recently secured funding is already making a real difference in our community \u2014 and how these resources are being used to deliver meaningful results for the people we serve.<\/p>\n

Lewis Village Investments in safety, prevention, and basic needs are helping ensure residents have the resources and support necessary to thrive, including:<\/p>\n $35.6M: Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics<\/strong><\/p>\n $35M: Neighborhood health grants<\/strong><\/p>\n $3.25M: Community Violence Intervention efforts $800K: Wayne Metro Community Action Agency $500K: Gleaner\u2019s Community Food Bank + Support for United Way In the 2024 state budget, Sen. McMorrow and Rep. Regina Weiss secured $10 million to fund the renovation of multiple buildings at the historic Marygrove College, creating a home for the cradle-to-career P-20 educational campus. This included the opening of a $22 million state\u2011of\u2011the\u2011art Marygrove Early Education Center to provide high-quality programs for children from birth to age five. The funding followed several years of investment and development from the Kresge Foundation, Detroit Public Schools Community District, University of Michigan School of Education, and Starfish Family Services.<\/p>\n \u201cWith critical state funding championed by Senator McMorrow, the Marygrove Conservancy has moved forward with major campus renovations, including the Powerhouse Center for Black Entrepreneurs, a new residential degree program from the University of Michigan titled Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Common Good (LEAPS), and unparalleled event and conference spaces. Her leadership has been critical in building a vibrant hub for learning, events, and community in northwest Detroit. Senator McMorrow continues to be a regular presence on campus, engaging with students and families.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014 Tom Lewand Last year, Community Violence Intervention (CVI) funding was on the chopping block during state budget negotiations. Sen. McMorrow and Senate Democrats fought to protect these critical investments, ensuring organizations like FORCE Detroit (Faithfully Organizing Resources for Community Empowerment) can continue their work preventing violence and supporting families. With state support, FORCE Detroit has built a strong network connecting residents to job training, housing, mental health care, food access, and other essential services \u2014 addressing both immediate safety needs and the root causes of violence.<\/p>\n \u201cState investment in community violence intervention has allowed FORCE Detroit to meet people where they are and provide real pathways to safety and stability. This is not just about reducing violence in the moment\u2014it\u2019s about creating long-term opportunities through workforce access, mental health support, and consistent, credible engagement.
