FERNDALE – Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement regarding an expansion of Oakland County’s comprehensive non-discrimination policy today at Affirmations LGBTQ Community Center:
“I am proud to have stood alongside Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter as he signed the county’s expanded comprehensive non-discrimination policy. To see this as a priority is assuring that Oakland County will continue to be a truly great place to live, work and play for years to come.
“It’s a shame, however, that we have a hodge-podge approach in protecting LGBT Michiganders from discrimination, and that legal protections differ from city to city, county to county. That’s why I introduced an expansion to the statewide Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act earlier this year so that every community in the entire state will follow Oakland County’s lead. Embracing our different identities and life experiences can only make us a stronger, more competitive, and more sustainable state.”
Sen. Jeremy Moss is Michigan’s first openly gay state senator. He represents the 11th Senate District that includes Farmington, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Lathrup Village, Madison Heights, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak Township, and Southfield.
