LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 23, 2023) — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address, delivered before the first Democratic majority in the Michigan Legislature in 40 years:

“Michiganders sent a historic Democratic majority to the Legislature to enact the bold agenda presented tonight by Gov. Whitmer. I’m proud to champion these proposals that will uplift and empower Michigan families. We must foster an economy in which everyone can compete fairly – that includes providing relief from rising costs, opening opportunities regardless of background or identity, and ensuring safe communities to call home.”

Sen. Moss, who serves as President Pro Tempore of the Michigan Senate, co-sponsored Senate bills that expand the Working Families Tax Credit and repeal the unpopular retirement tax. He is a founding member of the Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention Caucus and is the lead sponsor of Senate Bill 4, which codifies discrimination protections in the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act for LGBTQ Michiganders.
