LANSING, Mich. (October 26, 2023) — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D–Southfield) issued the following statement on sponsoring Senate Bill 606, part of the Polluter Pay legislative package (SBs 605-611) that will set more stringent cleanup standards, increase transparency, prevent sites from becoming “orphaned” and make it easier for those harmed by pollution to seek justice.

“Michigan residents can still recall the green ooze that seeped into my district in 2019. It was extraordinary how a bad actor could pollute that site for so long — and therefore our response must be extraordinary to change policies so that it never happens again in another community in our state. We must get tougher on polluters and require better cleanup standards, and I am proud to be a part of a bill package that will achieve that.”
