LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 24, 2024) — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address:

“This is the tenth State of the State Address I’ve watched as a legislator, which compels me to reflect on the last decade in Michigan. We have, no doubt, endured our share of challenges — a water crisis, a pandemic, and serious threats to our democracy, to name a few. Through it all, Michiganders remained resilient and pointed toward the brighter days that lay ahead.

“Now, a year after our new majority took the helm in the Michigan House and Senate, I feel energized about the direction of our state and echo the optimism Gov. Whitmer expressed in her speech tonight. We worked to support Michigan workers, provide needed tax relief, implement gun safety laws, and protect our fundamental rights. I’m eager to build upon our successes in 2024.

“Specifically, I applaud Gov. Whitmer’s focus on building more housing options in Michigan. Last term, I sponsored bipartisan legislation that became law to help homeowners make affordable upgrades to their existing homes and assist communities to construct new housing at attainable price points. We have much more to do.

“I’m committed to the work that will make Michigan a more affordable place to live and work, and attract new residents to call our state their home.”
