LANSING — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) has issued the following statement after Attorney General Dana Nessel announced a settlement today that prohibits adoption agencies with state contracts from refusing a prospective parent or parents because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

“I applaud the work of our Attorney General Nessel in her efforts to bring this discriminatory chapter of Michigan’s history to a close.

“Our state’s LGBT residents still face many more barriers to equality that need to be urgently addressed. LGBT rights are human rights, and it’s time our laws in Michigan reflect that. We must act to ensure that no Michigander faces discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“There is work yet undone and I look forward to pushing forward with my colleagues in the Legislature.”
