LANSING, Mich. (July 1, 2022) — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement after the Legislature approved the Fiscal Year 2023 budget. The $76.7 billion appropriations package passed early Friday morning and includes funding in Senate District 11 for local infrastructure, recreation, and health care services:
“This is a historic budget that invests in the people and communities in our state, setting up Michigan for economic growth. It supports our schools with a $450 per-pupil increase and $300 million in school mental health programs, preparing our students for success.
“I’ve also long been a leading voice in Lansing to better fund Michigan’s cities, villages, and townships. This budget boosts revenue sharing — money directed from the state to our local communities — by 6% to provide for essential government services.
“I’m especially proud to deliver for the residents in our district to improve our local infrastructure, enhance recreation opportunities, and increase accessibility to health care. Working with my colleagues, I helped to secure the funding that will support Southfield road projects, build a makers space in the Farmington Hills Community Center, and increase HIV testing and care services in Ferndale.”
Money included in the budget for the 11th Senate District includes:
- $3 million for Southfield road projects.
- $750,000 for the city of Farmington Hills for the development of a Community Innovation Center at the Hawk Community Center.
- $500,000 for Ferndale’s Matrix Services, which provides HIV prevention, support, and care services.
