The Michigan Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus
102nd Legislature
On the last day of Pride Month, the extreme Supreme Court of the United States issued its ruling in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, which struck a clear and decisive blow against civil rights in our country. While the hypothetical situation laid out in this case targeted the LGBTQ+ community specifically, make no mistake: this decision is the canary in the coalmine that will lead to discrimination against other protected classes.
The LGBTQ+ community has faced government-sanctioned discrimination before. This week marked the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which serves as a reminder that we did not back down in the face of oppression then, nor will we now. Here at home, the Michigan Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus stands firm in its commitment to protect and fight for the community. In Michigan, we have stood tall against prior U.S. Supreme Court rulings that would deny people their basic dignity and human rights. After the Dobbs decision just over a year ago, we fought like hell to guard reproductive freedom and make no mistake: we will fight like hell now to protect the LGBTQ+ community that calls Michigan home.
