LANSING, Mich. (June 24, 2022) — Today, Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s issued opinion of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:

“I’m appalled and disgusted by the Supreme Court’s decision.

“This ruling is dangerous. It will immediately put people’s health at risk, stripping away their bodily autonomy and imposing personal health and family planning decisions upon them. It disproportionately impacts already marginalized communities, upholding sexist, racist, and classist systems of oppression.

“This ruling is out-of-touch. It discards the real-life implications that people who become pregnant deal with. Opposing the right to choose is wildly unpopular in Michigan and forces the government to dictate a policy the majority in this state and country do not want.

“This ruling must be met with action. We need a pro-choice majority in the Legislature who will join my sense of urgency to end Michigan’s 1931 abortion felony law. We must mobilize to protect access to safe and legal abortion.

“I have always stood up for women’s choice, both inside the Legislature and out, and will fight to make sure each person is able to make their own personal health decisions that impact their present and future.”
