I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season. Our legislative session for the 102nd Legislature at the Capitol has come to an end and I wanted to take the time to review some of our accomplishments from 2024.
This historic session began in 2023 when our majority finally enacted many priorities that languished for decades, including: lowering taxes for seniors and working families, restoring labor laws, expanding civil rights, protecting reproductive freedom, passing gun safety measures, and budgeting with a lens of equity.
Last year, 10 of my bills were signed into law – the most of all lawmakers – and this year saw an additional two of my bills become public acts, with many more of my proposals passing through the Senate. There were certainly some disappointments toward the end of this session with the work undone, but I will be renewing these efforts in the new year.
It’s a continuing honor to represent Auburn Hills, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Detroit, Franklin, Lake Angelus, Lathrup Village, Pontiac, Southfield and Waterford in the Michigan Senate.
Jeremy Moss
President Pro Tempore of the Michigan Senate
State Senator for District 7

C’mon Rep. Joe Tate State Representative Samantha Steckloff let’s get this through the House.
The Michigan Senate Committee on Elections and Ethics this week favorably voted on a package of bills to improve transparency and integrity in the petition circulation process.
Senate Bill 1108 would ban petition organizers from paying circulators per signature, joining other states that remove this financial incentive for circulators to lie to voters to gain their signature. Senate Bill 1109 would require circulators to direct potential signers to a factual summary of the ballot proposal’s contents before collecting their signature.
“The petition process is a vital mechanism for Michiganders to make their voices heard and shape the future of our state. However, for it to be effective, the process must be fair, transparent, and free from abuse. These bills introduce much-needed updates to improve fairness and accountability in the petition process. By addressing concerns about unethical practices, enhancing transparency, and ensuring that every valid signature counts, this legislation strengthens a critical tool for citizen advocacy. Together, these reforms create a more reliable and trustworthy system that reflects the values of our democracy and ensures that the process is effective in amplifying the voices of everyday citizens,” said Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield), Chair of the Elections and Ethics Committee and bill sponsor.
