LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 9, 2025) \u2014 Oakland County Democrats approved a bipartisan state budget for the 2026 Fiscal Year that secures historic investments<\/a><\/u><\/span> to lower everyday costs, protect access to health care, support public schools, fund our aging roads, and expand opportunities for Michigan families.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
In addition to the statewide investments<\/a><\/u><\/span> secured in this budget by Michigan Democrats, Sen. Jeremy Moss<\/b> (D-Bloomfield) and Reps. Jason Hoskins<\/b> (D-Southfield), Brenda Carter<\/b> (D-Pontiac), and Samantha Steckloff<\/b> (D-Farmington Hills) worked together to deliver funding to support their Oakland County communities, including:\u00a0<\/div>\n

  • \n
    $1.5 million<\/b> to Bloomfield Township for public safety infrastructure<\/b>;\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    $1.5 million<\/b> to Lighthouse in Pontiac for new family emergency shelter<\/b> and expanded supportive services to end homelessness<\/b>;\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    $1.1 million<\/b> for the City of Lathrup Village to support the replacement of a 97-year-old main water line to improve overall water quality<\/b>, making it safer for consumption and use;\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    $500,000<\/b> for Oakland County Health Network in Pontiac to support infrastructure improvements<\/b>; and\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    $500,000<\/b> for Oakland County to support temporary housing<\/b>. \u00a0<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    In response, Sen. Moss <\/b>and Reps. Hoskins<\/b>, Carter<\/b>, and Steckloff <\/b>released the following statements on these budget wins:\u00a0<\/div>\n
    \u00a0<\/div>\n
    \u201cThis budget process was fraught with Republican chaos and strangled by far-right legislators who were cheerleading a government shutdown, despite the pain it would inflict on families in Michigan. Nevertheless, Senate Democrats held the line, and we led a bipartisan budget that protects Medicaid and SNAP from harsh Trump cuts, secures record per-pupil education funding and saves the free school meal program, fixes state and local roads, and much more,\u201d said Sen. Moss<\/b>. \u201cAdditionally, I was proud to deliver critical investment to our district where it’s needed, including housing support in Pontiac, public safety funding to Bloomfield, and water infrastructure in Lathrup Village.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n

    \u201cThis budget protects Medicaid, sustains hospitals, continues school meals, and secures record per-pupil funding,\u201d said Rep. Hoskins<\/b>. \u201cMy commitment is clear: I’ll keep working to ensure future budgets advance economic opportunity, expand education and make Michigan fair and worth calling home.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n

    \u201cOur budget protects Medicaid and SNAP from devastating federal cuts, safeguards child welfare services and delivers historic wins for working families and seniors by eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay and Social Security income. It also invests in our local roads and infrastructure and increases the per-pupil foundation allowance to $10,050 to support Michigan students,\u201d said Rep. Carter<\/b>. \u201cI\u2019m proud to have delivered $1.5 million for the Lighthouse of Oakland County, advancing the work I\u2019ve been doing for 20 years to help fight hunger and homelessness in our community. I\u2019m grateful we have strong community activists like Lighthouse aiding me in my efforts to ensure we have safeguards in Michigan for people experiencing poverty. This is a step forward for Michigan, but my work for our community is not done and I\u2019ll keep advocating for Michiganders.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n
