LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 25, 2023) — Sen. Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) has issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address on Wednesday evening:

“As the new Chair of the Senate Education Committee, I am ready to get to work on policies that finally put our students and educators first. This is why I am pleased to see that Gov. Whitmer is continuing to build on her MI Kids Back on Track plan to prioritize educational needs throughout the state. As a former teacher, I applaud the governor’s commitment to ensuring that our kids have access to crucial initiatives like 1-on-1 tutoring, personalized support systems and mental health resources. Strong schools and safe communities will help ensure that Michigan is prepared for future generations.”

In her speech, Gov. Whitmer laid out her administration’s plans for the coming year. This was the first “State of the State” address delivered in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
