LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 24, 2022) — Sen. Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) has issued the following statement in support of bills to create a Prescription Drug Affordability Board that will help reduce the cost of prescriptions:
“Drugs prices consistently rise faster than inflation and higher than other consumer goods, making them increasingly unaffordable for the people who need them most. I’m proud to be a part of this bicameral legislative package to address pricing right where it happens, and I look forward to getting these bills to the governor’s desk as soon as possible. Too many people’s lives — and their health — are depending on it.”
Introduced today, Senate Bills 889-892 are part of a multipronged approach across the Legislature and the Whitmer Administration to lower the cost of prescription drugs. Sen. Polehanki has sponsored Senate Bill 890, which would allow the director of the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services to decide how much to increase the fees by, with the difference being used to cover the administrative costs of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board.
