State Senator Dayna Polehanki

Friends,

I’m reaching out to you with the hope that you will help support my efforts in demonstrating why we need to pass Senate Bill 689 NOW.

Everyone who works in our Michigan school system is dedicated to educating and supporting the next generation of scholars, inventors, and leaders, and should never be made to feel unsafe in their work environment. Ensuring school safety and the safety of educators is a serious issue, and this bill would ensure that those adults who seek to cause teachers, staff, and administrators harm will face the consequences of their actions.

This backlash against schools is a result of districts implementing COVID-19 safety and prevention measures meant to protect students, teachers, and staff from possible infection and to mitigate the spread of the virus.

This bill sends a clear message that any violence perpetrated by adults against school staff and board members will not be tolerated.

If you, a relative, or friend have been harassed or threatened while performing official duties as a teacher, staff member, or administrator, I urge you to share the experience by visiting SchoolSafetyNow.com. By doing so, you are helping us demonstrate exactly why the Michigan Legislature needs to pass this bill and make the safety of anyone who works in schools a priority.

Working for you,

State Senator Dayna Polehanki
