LANSING, Mich. — Incoming Senate Majority Caucus Chair Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) today issued the following statement after naming Senator-elect Veronica Klinefelt (D-Eastpointe) Assistant Caucus Chair for the upcoming legislative term that begins in January 2023:

“Veronica has a long and incredible history of working on behalf of the people of her community, whether that is the local school board or city council. She is both a welcome addition to our majority for the people and a great person to have helping set the agenda, communicating with fellow caucus members, and more,” Sen. Polehanki said. “I am pleased to select Senator-elect Klinefelt to the position of Assistant Caucus Chair and know she is eager to hit the ground running in January.”

Klinefelt won her race for the 11th Senate District seat, which includes parts of Macomb and Wayne counties, earlier this month.

“I am honored to have been chosen to take on such an important role in the Senate Democratic Caucus,” Senator-elect Klinefelt said. “I admire the work this caucus has done to this point and am excited to soon be a part of it as well. The people of Michigan were clear in what they wanted from their elected officials when they cast their votes, and I fully intend to uphold my promise to ensure this majority represents our voters as best as we can in the agenda we pursue.”
