This young man from Michigan was drafted into the NFL but could not read the playbook.
I felt compelled to apologize to Deon on behalf of the state of Michigan - because we don't screen for Dyslexia in our public schools, nor do we train our teachers to identify its characteristics.
Because of this, I am certain that there are countless Deons out there who grew up thinking they were dumb. They're not.
We must rectify this NOW by passing State Senator Jeff Irwin's and my bills that require Dyslexia screening and teacher training in Michigan's public schools.
