DEARBORN — State Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) has issued the following statement after the Michigan Department of Transportation awarded a state transportation economic development grant to Ford Motor Co. — for infrastructure improvements to support more than 11,000 Wayne County jobs — as the company redevelops and revolutionizes their planned open, high-tech campus in Dearborn:

“If Michigan’s automobile industry wants to stay relevant in the next decade, we need large investments into our communities by way of job and infrastructure projects. This awarded grant will go a long way to invest not only in Ford Motor Company, but also in the surrounding communities of Dearborn and Detroit, where people work so hard to keep Michigan known as the world’s automotive capital.

“Ford has been a worldwide leader in the automotive industry since its inception in 1903, and this significant infrastructure grant will ensure that residents of the 3rd Senate District will have access to jobs and state-of-the-art facilities in which they can continue their unmeasured international success and innovation for decades to come.”
