LANSING, Mich. (June 30, 2021) — Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) today issued the following statement after the Michigan Senate included $10 million in funding for flood recovery efforts in House Bill 4410, a supplemental appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2021-2022:

“The storms that struck Southeast Michigan this past week have shown us what we can come to expect from our rapidly changing climate. For many Detroit, Dearborn, and Melvindale families who are still recovering from financial and human costs of the COVID-19 pandemic, the added hardship of paying for flood recovery costs is just too much for our district to bear.

“The appropriation of $10 million in today’s supplemental budget will offer much-needed financial assistance for our residents who have to repair and rebuild our communities in the wake of disaster. While this is a welcome relief, it is not enough. We must ensure we continue to prioritize this type of aid to our fellow Michiganders who continue to face so many challenges.”
