LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 25, 2023) — Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2023 State of the State address where she spoke about her goals regarding expanding and improving access to healthcare in Michigan:

“During the pandemic, residents across the state felt the financial toll childcare can have upon a working family, resulting in many Michiganders deciding to refrain from re-entering the workforce post-pandemic. I am excited that the Governor is looking to create ways to reduce the cost of childcare.  These investments will not only put money back in the pockets of Michigan families but will allow greater freedom and flexibility for those looking to re-enter the workforce.”

In her speech, Gov. Whitmer laid out her administration’s plans for the coming year. This was the first “State of the State” address delivered in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
