LANSING — Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) has issued the following statement after the Michigan Senate passed Senate Bill 1 today, which would allow motorists to choose their medical coverage levels in their insurance policies.

“My constituents sent me to Lansing to work on auto insurance reform, since Detroiters are no strangers to having some of the highest rates in the nation. The staggering costs of our auto insurance bills has folks constantly choosing between paying for their prescription medication, heat and electricity bills, or even groceries. This bill, while not perfect, is a step toward progress that is long overdue, and I support any effort that provides relief to residents of Detroit, Dearborn and Melvindale.”
