ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Aug. 3, 2023) — Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp) and local representatives will host a river cleanup event Friday, Aug. 4, to celebrate and highlight environmental budget wins from the 2024 State Budget. The event will include remarks from the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and Huron River Watershed Council, along with other local representatives.
Key environmental budget investments in the ‘24 Budget Bill include:
- $278.1 million for water infrastructure projects,
- $39.3 million for remediating PFAS and emerging contaminants,
- $18.2 million for acquisition and development projects around river trails and land areas.
- The Huron River trail area received a $300,000 appropriation for trail improvements which, combined with local matching funds, will support over $500,000 in improvements (including $50,000 specifically going to water improvements).
