LANSING, Mich. (May 24, 2024) — Thursday, May 23, Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) was joined at the Michigan Senate’s 29th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony by her distinguished guest, Trista Rink, a Jackson County Michigan National Guard veteran, who served from 2001 to 2009.
“The annual Memorial Day ceremony is a cherished Senate tradition that unites everyone on both sides of the aisle to honor veterans and their families from our districts and across the state,” said Sen. Shink. “The event was deeply moving, made even more so by sharing it with Trista. I am deeply grateful for her service and ongoing contributions to our community.”
During her service in the Michigan National Guard, Rink achieved the rank of E-5 Sergeant and was on active duty from 2007 to 2009. She remains devoted to her community through her work at the Community Action Agency as a Head Start Supervisor in Jackson.
Every year since 1995, the Michigan Senate holds a special session to commemorate Memorial Day and recognize Michigan veterans, active military servicemembers, and their families, including our state’s Blue Star Mothers, to express both the Senate and the entire state’s gratitude for their service. The ceremony also recognizes the Michigan soldiers who have lost their lives as well as their Gold Star Families they have left behind.
“I am committed to supporting Trista and all of our amazing veterans in my district and across the state, through legislation and budget investments to support our servicemembers and their families,” said Sen. Shink.
