LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 26, 2025) — Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address tonight:

“While Michigan’s future holds promise, the uncertainty of looming federal funding cuts threatens the stability of Michigan families, workers, and communities. These cuts put our children’s education at risk, make it harder to fix our roads, and leave our farmers and small businesses struggling to compete. The impact of impending tariffs only adds to the burden, driving up costs and hurting the livelihoods of those who keep our state fed.

“For all the good we want to accomplish, my biggest concern is how these financial challenges will affect the people who call our state home. Michiganders are hardworking and resilient, but they shouldn’t have to bear the weight of political decisions beyond their control. As the governor highlighted in her address, we must work together to ensure Michiganders have the resources, support, and opportunities they deserve.”
