DEXTER, MI (May 15, 2026) — Yesterday evening, Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) and the Secretary of State’s office hosted a Voter Rights Town Hall at the Dexter District Library. This event allowed residents to meet with the Senator, Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie, Washtenaw County Clerk Larry Kestenbaum, and Washtenaw County Director of Elections Rena Basch to ask questions about voting procedures and safety ahead of the 2026 midterm election.
“While the U.S. Supreme Court, Congress, and the Trump administration are working to strip Americans of our fundamental voting rights, we must counteract these harmful decisions with voter empowerment and state protections,” said Sen. Shink. “I’m grateful for our Secretary of State’s office and Washtenaw County officials for not only joining us but also for their integrity and hard work to protect safe, fair elections here in Michigan.”
During the event, Sen. Shink and election officials provided updates on Michigan’s election laws, emphasizing the need for statewide voting protections amid voting rights rollbacks happening nationwide. Community members discussed concerns of voter intimidation, the SAVE Act and the safeguards built into Michigan’s election system to ensure reliable results.
