Grant funding passed by the Senate will encourage population growth, drive business development in District 14
LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 12, 2023) — Following the recent announcement of $99.2 million in Revitalization and Placemaking Program (RAP 2.0) grants, including $1,962,170 for projects in District 14, Sen. Sue Shink (D-Northfield Twp.) issued the following statement:
“I am excited about the latest investments my colleagues and I have worked to secure to invest in our state and the lives of Michiganders — including funding to aid in the redevelopment of the historic Chelsea Rockwell building, which has long been vacant and deserving of a new lease on life. As a county commissioner I worked to support this important housing effort and, now as a State Senator, I am glad to see it progressing. Having the opportunity to utilize state dollars in a meaningful way is a responsibility I take seriously. I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow legislators to strengthen our economy and help make Michigan a top-performing state.”
Portions of the grants will be allocated towards supporting Michigan’s 10 prosperity regions — including funding for Chelsea Rockwell in the City of Chelsea.
The original RAP program awarded $83.8 million in federal American Rescue Plan dollars in September 2022. This second iteration of the impactful program RAP 2.0 received an appropriation of $100 million in the budget supplemental, Senate Bill 7, which was signed by Gov. Whitmer in February 2023.
