So much exciting work is already underway for the year! I want to take a moment to reflect on some of the important victories we won in 2025 \u2014 all while navigating hardship at the federal level. From protecting access to health care and securing record investments in public education, to passing legislation to lower costs and improve quality of life, my colleagues and I fought for you every step of the way. And we will continue to fight for you in 2026.<\/p>\n

Protecting Medicaid and Taking Action on Health Care<\/h2>\n

My Democratic colleagues and I have been sounding the alarm on the federal policies and cuts threatening Michiganders like you. Over the past year, we’ve held committee hearings on tariffs and how they make us poorer, cuts to funding for farmers and food banks, and how federal attacks on vital services \u2014 such as Medicaid \u2014 hurt all of us.<\/p>\n

We fought hard and won significant victories in the state budget, lessening the harm caused by the federal administration’s cruel actions, including avoiding a one billion dollar hit to Michigan. We undid tax breaks for billionaire corporations, protected SNAP food assistance benefits for regular Michiganders, and saved Medicaid in Michigan.<\/p>\n

To ensure all Michiganders can afford the medications they need, the Senate passed legislation to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) in Michigan \u2014 an independent body designed to lower drug prices and hold Big Pharma accountable.<\/p>\n

Providing a Better Future for Moms and Babies<\/h2>\n

Rx Kids is the nation\u2019s first prenatal and infant cash prescription program. In 2025, we secured a landmark investment of $270 million to expand Rx Kids. Over the next three years, this funding is expected to reach nearly 100,000 Michigan babies, including many in our community.<\/p>\n
