LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 6, 2023) — Senate Majority Floor Leader Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order signed today to help the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) speed up the process of building and refurbishing affordable housing in the state:

“I applaud Gov. Whitmer’s decision to take executive action on the muchneeded area of affordable housing.  Advocates have been asking the administration to streamline federal and state housing and community development funding into one state agency like MSHDA instead of having a multipleagency approach like the one they inherited four years ago. This executive order along with the resources in last months supplemental will make it possible to move forward on timely and important housing projects that will give communities and working families broader access to stable housing.”
