Michigan Senate Democrats recently passed\u00a0<\/span>Senate Resolution 104<\/span><\/a>, calling on D.C. Republicans to reverse the Trump administration\u2019s actions that have led to\u00a0<\/span>surging energy costs across the state and nation<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0Every Senate Republican voted no.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n During a time of economic instability, the Trump administration has continuously driven up energy prices for Michigan families by cancelling hundreds of renewable energy programs under the so-called \u201cOne, Big, Beautiful Bill\u201d and forcing the inefficient, pollutive J.H. Campbell coal plant in West Michigan to stay open. Michigan ratepayers are footing the bill, and\u00a0<\/span>Trump\u2019s war with Iran has indisputably caused a significant spike in fuel costs<\/span><\/a>\u00a0since the conflict began.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Senate Resolution 104, which has been sent to Congress and the White House, urges Republicans to pursue every available means to tackle skyrocketing energy prices, restore proven-effective renewable energy programs, and put the priorities of the American people \u2014 especially lowering costs \u2014\u00a0first and foremost. My colleagues and I will continue fighting to hold the Trump administration accountable and provide real financial relief for our communities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced\u00a0nearly 55,000\u00a0children statewide are enrolled in the Great Start Readiness Program, Michigan\u2019s PreK for All program, as of Jan. 2026. This is the largest enrollment in the program\u2019s history, doubling the number of children enrolled since 2021. PreK for All is available to all Michigan families, regardless of income level, saving them an estimated $14,000 per year on\u00a0child care\u00a0costs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Senate Democrats secured robust state funding that expanded access to high quality, no-cost preschool through PreK for All \u2014 giving our kids the tools they need for bright futures, helping hardworking families tackle the\u00a0child care\u00a0crisis, and allowing parents to advance in their careers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Enrollment<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a02026-27 school year is now open! To qualify, your student must be 4 years old by Dec. 1. Learn more about PreK for All\u00a0<\/span>here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To create safer internet spaces and put a stop to the exploitative tactics of Big Tech and Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies, Senate Democrats championed our\u00a0<\/span>Kids Over Clicks<\/span><\/a>\u00a0bill package. This commonsense legislation was crafted with parents, industry experts, and advocates to ensure stronger safeguards around children\u2019s online activity while holding corporations accountable for the unethical, predatory practices that put our youth at risk and keep them addicted to their devices.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We recently moved this critical package out of committee, sending it to the Senate floor for further consideration. This April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week, and once again, Senate Dems are joining the Black Mamas Matter Alliance to shine a light on the glaring systemic injustices in our maternal care system, along with solutions underway that\u00a0seek\u00a0to tackle them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To ensure Black and Brown moms are treated with the care they deserve, the\u00a0Michigan Senate\u00a0<\/span>passed a comprehensive slate of legislation\u00a0last year<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that would improve maternal health outcomes in Michigan through\u00a0equitable\u00a0data requirements, anti-discrimination measures, patient protections, and more. Despite being passed out of the Senate with bipartisan \u2014 and some, even unanimous \u2014 support last April, these commonsense bills\u00a0remain\u00a0stalled in the Republican-controlled House. My Senate colleagues and I will continue to demand better for moms across Michigan, including\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>passing a Resolution this week<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that highlights the need for these critical bills.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n April 1 marked the official kickoff to the new fishing license year in Michigan. With Michigan hotspots offering some of the best fishing in the country,\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0miss out \u2014 grab your gear and hit the water!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Before you do though, make sure to thoroughly review the\u00a0<\/span>2026 Michigan Fishing Regulations<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to learn any new regulations that apply to your favorite fishing spots. And of course, make sure your fishing license is up to date.
