LANSING — Sen. Paul Wojno (D-Warren) has issued the following statement after the Michigan Strategic Fund board unanimously voted today in support of $223.5 million in incentives to allow Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to invest in its manufacturing facilities in Southeast Michigan:
“Macomb County has a long and proud tradition of serving as a manufacturing hub for all kinds of projects, including the automotive industry and Fiat Chrysler. It’s a true testament to the hardworking folks in my district who are ready to get to work crafting the machines that move America. I couldn’t be happier to see continued investment and support from Fiat Chrysler and look forward to the economic boost they’ll bring to Macomb.”
The incentive package stands to bring more than 6,000 jobs to the region, with the FCA’s $2 billion investment in Warren, Sterling Heights and Dundee facilities forecasted to create nearly 1,483 new jobs. The company has truck and stamping plants in Warren located at Eight Mile and Mound roads.
FCA first announced a $4.5 billion investment to retool plants in Macomb County and reopen a plant in Detroit in February, and the latest news from the Michigan Strategic Fund is a critical piece of that overall goal.
