This week, I was joined by Bloomfield Township Clerk Martin Brook and Terry Counihan, President of the Island Lake, Lower Long Lake, and Forest Lake Home Owners Association, to testify on my bill allowing local cities and townships to regulate activities on neighborhood lakes with no public access, including ordinances restricting high-speed electric motors and enforcing no wake zones.
Right now that authority lies with the state, forcing local communities to go through unnecessary hurdles to uphold the will of residents who live on these lakes. I attended a required state hearing in Bloomfield along with 175 township residents who nearly unanimously expressed support for local control of their lakes.
