I am concerned and disgusted that my Republican colleagues in the Michigan House are blocking bills to protect teachers from huge surges in their healthcare costs.

A bipartisan coalition came together last year to put partisanship aside and give public school teachers urgently needed relief.

Teachers are already struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living, and because of the way our laws are written, thousands of teachers are set to see huge increases in the cost of their healthcare if these bills aren’t signed.

By holding up this legislation, Republicans in the House are effectively sending a huge health care bill to public school teachers, many of whom are already considering leaving the field because they struggle to make ends meet.

For example, Garden City Public School teachers estimated out-of-pocket cost increase is between $2,500 and $3,500.

My old school district, where I taught for nearly two decades, has teachers' estimated out-of-pocket cost increased by $3,120.

My Republican colleagues might be able to afford to play politics right now, but public school teachers simply can’t.

What about childcare workers? They receive little to no benefits. I am unsure that any democrat or republican has truthfully cared about those that do not even make a livable wage..

Republican city clerk in Livonia refused disabled voters curb side voting, blocked handicap accessible parking for early voting with "Vote Here" signs in the parking spaces, and obstructed voting by blocking parking lot accessible routes from the lot to the door with orange cones, people voting on their knees as clerk refused wheelchair height tables, and voting assistance terminal with audio prompts, its like an ATM for voting with a touch screen was unusable due to missing headset, handcontrollers, and placed on a wobbly card table facing the public who could read the voting screen... then called police to remove anyone in the voter line as retaliation and obstruction of voting disability and older adult voting laws... think about that.... there is nothing more sacred than voting. We need our elected officials to speak up for accessible voting and ask constituents to report such violations.

Dayna, instead of pointing fingers at your colleagues, why don’t you really advocate for the citizens and go back insurance companies, hospitals, big pharma and get them to lower their costs for EVERYBODY. Same as colleges and universities. Stop with the political blame game and really make a difference. 🗣️
