LANSING, Mich. (Nov. 16, 2022) — Senator-elect Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) today issued the following statement upon being named the Senate Appropriations Committee Chair for the 102nd Legislature:

“I am proud and honored to serve as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee next term. The soon-to-be Democratic Majority is eager to get to work on a responsible, equitable, and fiscally sound state budget that addresses needs now and into the future, and we welcome all who are willing to do so in good faith with us. I’m grateful to Majority Leader-elect Winnie Brinks for this opportunity to lead, and I can’t wait to make Michigan the best it can be for working families and folks across the state.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, Democrats gained control of the Michigan Senate for the first time since 1983. Anthony’s election was historic as well, as she will be the first Black woman to chair the Senate Appropriations Committee. Anthony will also be the first Black woman to represent Lansing in the Michigan Senate.
