LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 10, 2025) — Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) has issued the following statement regarding the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) taking place today:
“With the new year comes a fresh opportunity to craft another responsible state budget. The data and projections we received from today’s conference suggest that our economy remains strong, and state revenues are growing under Democratic leadership, allowing us to sustain vital funding and continue addressing the real challenges facing working families.”
“I am encouraged by the revenue projections and remain focused on the work ahead. I look forward to collaborating with the governor and my House colleagues to deliver a well-balanced, transparent, bipartisan budget for 2026. The values that have guided us through the past two budget cycles will continue to steer our efforts to build a brighter future for all Michiganders.”
CREC is held at least twice a year, in January and May. The January CREC starts the annual budget process for the State of Michigan. The revenue forecast adopted during the January conference is the starting point for the governor’s executive budget, while the May conference updates the estimate prior to the final budget enactment. CREC is led by the Director of the House Fiscal Agency, the Director of the Senate Fiscal Agency, and either the State Treasurer or State Budget Director.
