LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 3, 2025) — Today, Sen. Sarah Anthony, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, submitted two supplemental budget bills to make the technical changes necessary to close the books for fiscal year 2024. This technical process is crucial for ensuring financial accuracy as the Legislature moves forward crafting the fiscal year 2026 budget. Chairwoman Anthony released the following statement regarding the closing of the 2024 State Budget:

“Fiscal responsibility is a hallmark of good governance. As Appropriations Chair, it’s my job to ensure we meet our obligations, balance the budget and close the books with accuracy and integrity. Submitting these supplemental budget bills is about setting us off on the right foot as we begin the next budget cycle. That’s what good governance looks like — it’s not about headlines or theatrics; it’s about showing up and getting the job done. I look forward to working with House Appropriations Chair Bollin and the State Budget Office to ensure these bills encompass all the technical changes needed to keep our government moving forward and ensure the continuation of our essential state services.”

Senate Bills 55 and 56 reflect Sen. Anthony and her Democratic colleagues’ commitment to good governance, fiscal responsibility and transparency, and keeping Michigan’s government functioning efficiently.
