LANSING, Mich. (March 11, 2025) — Yesterday, Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) received the Legislator of the Year Award from the Michigan Municipal League in recognition of her efforts to support local governments across the state.
By restoring the three-factor formula for the distribution of state revenue sharing in 2024, Sen. Anthony and her Senate Democratic colleagues ensured that nearly 1,200 cities, villages, and townships around Michigan could once again access funds to provide services that residents count on, from police protection and fire service to garbage collection and more. Following the presentation of her award, Sen. Anthony released the following statement:
“As someone who began my career in local government, I know firsthand how demanding the work is and how much responsibility local leaders carry. I also understand that communities know best how to meet their own needs, which is why I am so proud of our work in the Senate to bring back a more equitable revenue sharing model for Michigan. By restoring funds to over 1,000 communities, we’re ensuring local governments can access the resources they need to keep their parks clean, provide public safety, and deliver the services residents rely on every day.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive the Legislator of the Year Award from the Michigan Municipal League, and I continue to be grateful for the work they do every day to support and strengthen local communities around the state. While this year’s work will be harder than ever, I am confident that — in keeping our people front and center and staying true to our values — we can deliver more solutions that Michigan families and communities are counting on.”
The Michigan Municipal League is a statewide association representing more than 500 full-service cities, villages, and urban townships.
