LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 7, 2024) — Senate Appropriations Chair Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2025 executive budget recommendation presented to the Senate and House appropriations committees this morning:
“Last year, my Democratic colleagues and I seized the opportunity to craft and pass one of the most inclusive and equitable state budgets in Michigan’s history — while also maintaining fiscal responsibility and establishing unprecedented transparency. We thoughtfully managed unprecedented revenue, investing in significant improvements and areas of immediate need while also balancing the budget, paying down debt and investing money in the state’s future stability and fiscal needs. I share in Gov. Whitmer’s pride in these accomplishments in the last budget, and share her commitment to these principles moving forward.
“Together, we crafted a 2024 state budget with a mix of transformative investments that benefit all Michiganders — like free school meals and expanded preschool — to targeted investments in the areas of greatest need. I am equally committed to this emphasis in the 2025 budget, and am proud to call Governor Whitmer a partner in that effort.”
