LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 17, 2024) — Yesterday, the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee heard testimony on a package of bills aimed at modernizing Michigan’s identification system by allowing residents, businesses, and other entities to opt for mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs. Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) released the following statement regarding the committee’s hearing:

“Michigan’s residents deserve the convenience and security that mobile IDs provide. Our phones have become a pillar in our daily lives, and this bill package gives Michiganders the flexibility to access their ID right on their smartphone making interactions — from ordering at a restaurant to boarding a flight — more seamless and secure.

“I’m excited to see this vision moving closer to reality, and I’m committed to continuing this work until Michigan residents have access to the latest technology that enhances their safety, privacy, and overall quality of life.”
