BEVERLY HILLS – Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) has issued the following statement regarding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-35, which suspends face-to-face learning at K-12 schools for the remainder of the school year but ensures that learning will continue by setting guidelines for remote learning:
“Governor Whitmer’s action today demonstrates the bold leadership we need in this time of crisis. While remote learning is not optimal, I support this difficult decision because it puts the health and safety of our students, teachers, staff and families first.
“In the coming weeks, I will work with fellow legislators and the governor’s office to ensure each district is providing an appropriate alternative learning path for their students, including trying to address the inequities in Michigan’s public education system. Since I took office, I have been fighting for a more equitable school funding model, and now more than ever I will continue this pursuit with vigor.”
