BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. (Jan. 27, 2021) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D–Beverly Hills) has issued the following statement on Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State address, in which she spoke about her commitment to supporting education as teachers and students work toward a return to in-person learning, in addition to the need to address the digital gap of broadband access that the pandemic has made clear exists across the state:
“While our parents, children, teachers, and school staff have been dealt a difficult hand during this pandemic, their collective efforts toward solutions in spite of numerous challenges are admirable. I’m very glad to hear Governor Whitmer’s educational priorities are at the forefront of her policy plans for 2021.
“Schools’ needs have only grown during this unprecedented time, during which our current funding model’s inequities have been made clear. There are critical issues that need to be addressed, including the need to ensure all students have broadband access no matter their ZIP code, and I look forward to working with the Administration on how we can address these issues with sound policy that delivers real results.”
