LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 25, 2023) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-West Bloomfield) has issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address on Wednesday evening:

“Prioritizing the safety of Michiganders, especially students, is at the top of my list of goals as a legislator, and I am pleased to hear we have the governor’s strong support on this issue. In addition to enacting legislation that would decrease the threat of gun violence, I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to introduce more mental health support in schools, as well as increased opportunities for special education for students who need it.”

In her speech, Gov. Whitmer laid out her administration’s plans for the coming year. This was the first “State of the State” address delivered in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
