LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 24, 2024) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-West Bloomfield) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address tonight and her proposal to provide free education from Pre-K through community college for all Michigan students:
“As the Michigan Department of Education Appropriations Subcommittee Chair, the state of education is vital to me. My colleagues and I have worked hard to allocate the necessary funding to reduce achievement gaps and ensure all Michigan students can receive a high-quality education — it’s one of the issues that first inspired me to run for office.
“Initiatives to improve access to higher education, whether it’s an associate degree or a skill certificate, will truly aid in greater talent retention over time. It will enrich the lives of our youth, allowing them to dream big and opening doors to more opportunities. Overall, I aim to make Michigan a place where talent can be fostered and tapped. Let’s keep our talent right here.”
