LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) has issued the following statement regarding the passage of a package of bills outlining various mandates for schools to receive their education funding for the forthcoming school year:

“Students, teachers, and parents in my district sent me to Lansing to ensure their best interests were met. Unfortunately, the education plan legislation that was passed in the Michigan Senate today falls far short of what is needed during this time of immense stress. Consequently, I could not — and did not — support it.

“Our parents, teachers and students — in fact, our entire community — deserves better than this and I am disappointed that it passed. Regardless, we still have work to do on the rapidly approaching new fiscal year and more than ever, I am committed to securing the funding, resources, and tools that Oakland County and my district need. We have an incredible power vested in us and an equally incredible responsibility to do what’s right. I will not back down from giving my constituents the direction, certainty, and help they are so desperately seeking during these most uncertain times.”
